Traditional box score stats such as points, shooting percentage, assists, rebounds, blocks, and steals
VORP (Value Over Replacement Player), BPM (Box Plus-Minus), and WS (Win Shares)
RPM (Real Plus-Minus) and PIPM (Player Impact Plus-Minus)
An estimate of the percentage of the team's offense possessions that a player uses
Points and true shooting percentage in the last 5 minutes of games when the score is within 5 points
Regular season record and team net rating with the given player on the court
Included in the chart are all players from this season who finished in the Top 80 in both RPM Wins and VORP, finished in the Top 40 in one of those two stats, and played more than 29 minutes per game. That gave me a nice round number of 40 players that covered all legitimate MVP candidates as well as a few interesting oddballs (hello, Thaddeus Young). "Old MVP Candidates" includes all seasons since 2000-01 that finished in the top two in MVP voting or received at least five first place votes.
